Fashion Week Inspiration with Steven Tai

For our Fashion Week inspiration this week we’re championing designer Steven Tai who will be showing this season at London Fashion Week. Tai received his BA in Fashion Design from Central Saint Martins and has worked for prestigious design houses such as Viktor and Rolf and Stella McCartney. In 2012, he debuted his own label, later showing it at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Berlin where he then received worldwide recognition.

The StevenTai brand is known for having an original, loving take on the “awkward, quirky” girl. Tai experiments with unusual techniques and silhouettes to create a fresh take on the tomboy look. StevenTai is the perfect brand for women that want to find that happy medium between feeling comfortable and luxurious.

Past Steven Tai Looks

As you can see from some of Tai’s previous collections, the designer likes to experiment with different textures and silhouettes. Because of the materials used and the design of these dresses, they are able to be either dressed up or down by adding a pair of heels, to achieve a more formal look or some trainers, as seen above, if you want to keep things more casual.

“When wearing over-sized silhouettes, we recommend wearing no more than two tones to avoid the shapes overpowering the body”

We’ve recreated one of Tai’s looks above if you’re looking for something slightly more neutral and comfortable to wear to fashion week. By keeping the entire outfit the same tone, this elongates the body and will make you appear taller.

We love how Tai mixes the tomboy and feminine styles above by combing a white shirt with a sheer dress underneath. You can keep this look within the same colour palette/tones to create a length whilst using accessories like a pair of fun earrings and a gold cuff like the one above to make the outfit a bit more interesting.
