Day To Night Outfit Inspiration

It’s Friday at the office, and you’re counting down the minutes until you can turn off your computer screen and meet your friends for a night out. There’s just one little problem: you’re meeting at a pub down the street from work and your flat is an hour commute each way. There’s no time to go home, freshen up and change clothes, so what are you going to do?

Easy answer. Turn to the classic “day to night” formula. This unspoken formula is universally understood by fashionistas everywhere. If you’re nodding along in agreement, great. If you’re sitting in a panic and thinking, “I’ve never heard of this,” then that’s okay too. We have a few quick tips for taking a workwear outfit from office appropriate to night out in less than 10 minutes.

Have a versatile base outfit

The base outfit usually consists of a simple dress or blouse/trouser/skirt combo. Prints are fine, but just keep in mind that whatever you choose to wear needs to be appropriate for the office, but not too corporate for the bar.

Ditch the blazer

Leave the stuffy jacket at your desk. This night is about going out and having a good time, not silently suffering under a hot, corporate blazer or cardigan because you may not be totally comfortable with showing your arms. First of all, your arms are beautiful. Second, if you’re really uncomfortable, there are dresses and tops with sleeves that are just as fashionable, chic and sexy as sleeveless tops. It’s all about taking the time to find the right fit to flatter your body type.

Switch out your accessories

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it until our lips fall off: accessories complete the outfit. A simple necklace or drop earring is most appropriate for work, and it’s also easy to hide away in a desk drawer or purse when it’s time to put something a bit more flashy on. Flashy doesn’t have to mean “complicated.” Sure, there are fun and crazy statement necklaces, earring trends, and costume rings that can make big statements, but a minimalistic piece of silver or gold jewelry with a big stone or intricate design can be just as impressionable. It’s all up to your personal taste.

The same goes for shoes. First, you need to know what you’re comfortable in. If you’re uncomfortable in a pair of 4″ stilettos, you’re not going to have a good time. You can choose a pair that works for both work and the dance floor, or you can switch on your way out the office door. Stilettos can be fun and sexy, but embellished flats, block heels, and kitten heels are all great options for pulling together a day-to-night outfit as well.

Make-up

Adding a bright lip or smoky eye can take a clean face from drab to fab in seconds. Not comfortable with eye-liner or a bright pop of colour on your lips? Try swiping a darker mascara over your lashes, or a applying a brown smoky shadow as a happy medium. By doing this, you not only have a more finished look, but it can make you feel more fun and flirty as well! There’s no better formula for having a good time than a complete outfit and a positive attitude.
