How To Style The Athleisure Trend

Whether you’re active or not, athleisure is taking over and we can all get on board. For the past year or so, athleisure style has gained momentum and it has reached its peak this season, being an aspiring look for many non-sport oriented brands. The best thing about this trend is that everything is casual and comfortable, which is hard to object to. We’ve chosen a few must haves every one needs if you want to achieve the look. Here are our stylist tips on how to style the athleisure trend.

Track is Back

There is nothing wrong with wearing a tracksuit in public anymore , it’s all about how you style them. Baggy nylon tracksuits aren’t exactly all the rage but a sweat suit or velour suits are. While the weather still calls for it, pair your tracksuit with a bomber jacket and colour coordinated sneakers. The best thing about tracksuits is that you don’t have to put much thought into your outfit.

Juicy Couture and Adidas have concessions at Topshop due to the athleisure trend being so wearable. If you’re not sure about track head to toe, we recommend wearing a sports top with your favourite ripped jeans for a more sophisticated look.

Footwear is the thing that will set you apart in the athleisure department. For the gym and intense sports always stick to the sneakers you have that provide the best support to your feet. If you want to make a fashion statement, look for a solid colour like white or black with a sleek silhouette, like a slip on. These styles will be versatile enough to wear with any tracksuit or jogger. More “high fashion” options come in fun colours and non-traditional fabrics like suede. We recommend keeping it fairly neutral if you’re new to this trend and metallics and whites are good choices. Even though they’re sneakers we still recommend asking yourself “Are these shoes enhancing my outfit”, if so great!

These are definitely a staple in any athleisure wardrobe. They are not as dressed down as sweats or gym leggings but way sportier than jeans. Joggers are the perfect versatile piece because they come is so much variety for both guys and girls and can be worn very differently. Don’t be afraid to style your joggers with heels. Pair with a bomber and a simple top. These outfits are perfect for a casual weekend brunch or dinner. For an authentic athleisure ensemble, sneakers and joggers go together seamlessly.

Keep It Neutral

To avoid looking like you’re dressing too casually, keep to a neutral palette. Soft greys, metallics and whites all look great together and add a luxe and sophisticated feel to the athleisure trend. You can even style pieces like a metallic pleated skirt with a sports top for that perfect cross-over outfit.

Like we always say, no outfit is complete with the right accessories. They may be less obvious than usual but we recommend going for a great watch, earrings that work in harmony with the rest of the outfit and some tonal sunglasses.

With this trend you never have to feel fashion compromised even if you’re wearing comfortable gym clothes or leisurewear on casual days. For more advice on how to create an athleisure wardrobe, contact one of our stylists. Check out our packages for men and women here.
