Summer Style Made Simple
Summer style can feel so difficult sometimes – so many outdoor parties to attend, festivals and even the daily commute in what feels like sweltering heat. With the warmer weather brings the question, “How do I dress for this heat and still look fashionable?” Our stylists have mastered the art of looking cool and feeling cool (quite literally), and have shared some tips and looks on how to achieve a summer chic look.
Monochromatic Summer Look
We created a red and white monochromatic look to make a bold statement this summer! We paired a striped flared-leg trouser with a high turtle-neck top for a summer look that says FUN FUN FUN. Vertical stripes are a great pattern to wear as they make your body appear longer and leaner. A floral print will also work but make sure you keep the rest of the outfit simple – unless you want to purposely mix your prints like we recommended in our past blog here.
Choosing a high-waisted trouser helps further elongate the legs (always a plus!) To create the summer monochromatic look, we stuck to one colour, red, to fully and used this in the accessories. This red hat is great for providing a bit of shade in the summer heat but also looks ‘oh so fabulous!’
People often think that styling summer outfits is much easier than winter however this is where a lot of people go wrong. Even a maxi dress or simple pair of shorts can be elevated with clever styling.
This denim blue jumpsuit is the perfect base layer for a daytime outfit when paired with minimal but statement accessories. The sleeveless jumpsuit is an easy way to look stylish and cool this summer. The wide-leg silhouette makes this jumpsuit cool and breathable (yes please!)
We accessorised the look with minimalist all white accessories including statement sunglasses and an envelope clutch – a bag that can take you from day to night in with ease. This look is finished off with a crisp white pair of trainers (a summer must have!)
In summer more than any other season, accessories play a big part in pulling outfits together and make you look like you’re dressed for the office and not the beach!
Granted, we wear less layers in summer, however those items will look much more pulled together with the final touches.
To create a look fitted for the workplace, we styled a versatile silk slip skirt as the base of this neutral look. When paired with a pleated camisole and a blazer to cover the arms and shoulders, this look instantly becomes a smart work appropriate look. Our stylists added a simple ankle strap flat in black to further solidify the all neutral look.
Stylist tip: This outfit can go from smart style to street style in seconds by trading the blazer for a leather jacket and the pumps for trainer.
Looking and feeling good when it’s hot outside is never easy but always remember to follow your style rules.
In short, don’t buy lots of items you think would only last the summer. This is both wasteful and not cost effective. Think long term even when buying summer clothes!
