The 70’s Fashion Trend
The 70’s fashion trend has been spotted at stores like Topshop and Zara and also on the Jason Wu, Saint Laurent and Prada runways. Any retro style is tricky to pull off because you don’t want to look like you’re fresh off a time machine. However, if you pull together a few key pieces, especially accessories, it’s easy to bring back a taste of the 70’s.
The key to pulling off the 70’s fashion trend is to use a subtle approach. Aside from the obvious springtime flower power, you can bring out your high waisted flared jeans and bell sleeved shirt. Pick your clothing in mild colours as it is easy to get carried away with too much 70’s (but is there such a thing?)
As far as important clothing pieces, we suggest a fitted sweater vest and an a-line skirt. You can pull from the mustard yellow colour trend and team this nice outfit with some burgundy or a retro daisy pattern. Pair with shiny mary janes and your outfit will be so far out fashion forward. We love the muted greens, reds, blues and yellows this season so make sure you call upon these colours in your wardrobe, too!
Check out these accessories that we can’t get enough of – you’ll be sure to dig them too:
- The skinny scarf – A silk or cotton scarf brings just a 70’s flavour to any outfit. If you’re way fab, you can even try a paisley pattern.
- The fringe bag– A fringe bag in a neutral colour (black, grey, tan or white) is perfect for an edgier, hippy look.
- Wedges – A pair of wedges certainly adds a kick to your outfit. Wedges are a simple shoe that are easy to wear for a day of errands or even the workplace.
- Gold bracelets – A must have accessory is an assortment of gold bracelets. They’re easy to wear with any outfit and can be mixed and matched for an even groovier effect.
If you pick clothing or accessories or both be sure to not overpower your outfit with the 70’s. Find an even balance between retro and modern. No matter what you do with the 70’s fashion trend, you’ll have good vibes coming your way.
