What to Wear to Work this Spring
The spring months bring many things; warm weather, green trees and bank holidays, but it also brings the age old dilemma of what to wear to work as the temperature changes. Your dependable work trousers can no longer see you through the work week, your long sleeved blouse is now too much for your daily commute. You need a S/S work-wear switch up. Dorothy Perkins has recently teamed up with fashion psychologist Dr Carolyn Mair to look at how what we wear to work can impact on how we are perceived. From this, they went on to produce an infographic on ways to style your way to success, offering work-wear tips and recommendations to help you make that great first impression. As you know by know we are big advocates in how wearing the right clothes can improve your confidence and you can read more from Dr Carolyn Mair here.
Style Doctors stylists have also put together some simple spring summer work-wear swaps, so that you have the opportunity to remain both comfortable and confident in the transition into warmer months in the office.
#1 Switch trousers for culottes
Trust us, culottes are your new best friend! Give your usual work trouser a rest and switch it up for the new kids on the block.
How to wear: Incorporate a pair of culottes into your look by pairing them with a simple blouse and pumps. Carry a structured clutch for a fashionable finishing touch.
#2 Switch your work dress for a shirt dress
Light, airy and flattering – a shirt dress compliments any figure and is easy to throw on with some light sandals – perfect for those early mornings when you just don’t know what to wear!
How to wear: For a work outfit worthy of praise, wrap a belt around your shirt dress, toss a boho bag over your shoulder, and finish the look with a pair of suede ankle boots.
#3 Embrace the pinafore dress
A dungaree-dress hybrid that’s taking the fashion world by storm, this typically casual style has had an upgrade in suede fabrics and pastel tones.
How to wear: Make this work for the office by layering a light blouse underneath or topping it off with your favourite tee, either way you’ll get a lot of use out of the dress this season.
#4 Switch your pencil skirt for a paper bag skirt
This skirt is all about the waist and creating a silhouette – the tie-up feature hides a multitude of sins and is a great way to dress up a tucked in tee or vest.
How to wear: Give this always flattering skirt style an office update this summer by investing in detailed tailored sleeveless shirts to tuck in.
#5 Switch dresses for jumpsuits
Jumpsuits have had an office makeover – decidedly grown-up, sophisticated options are now coming in tailored shapes and muted tones – a whole new way to approach workwear has arrived.
How to wear: Keep it simple. Purely add luxe accessories and a light tailored cover-up to make the just-got-out-of-a-meeting look work for you.
