We recently sat down with one of our Dubai based personal stylists Marina to find out more about the reasons someone might hire a personal stylist in the UAE.

What are the main 3 reasons someone should hire a stylist?
No.1 // A stylist is someone that’s dedicated to fashion trends and always keeps track of the latest happenings in pop culture, the news and anything generally happening on and off the catwalks.
They also have the experience and knowledge on how to customize any particular trend to suit their client’s body type and lifestyle.
No.2 // Saves time and effort for the customer as a personal stylist is aware of the collections in the stores. They have connections with retailers, so they can easily access a vast range of items in both luxury and high street stores.
No.3 // Having a second opinion always helps when you’re confused about how it will look or how people see you. A stylist like me has no ulterior motives other than to make you look and feel good.

What can you achieve in 2 hours with you as a stylist?
In two hours we can achieve a lot! It is usually dependent on the communication between the customer and the stylist. The more the customer communicates with me, the easier I can style them and find them exactly what they need, want or expect.
A major wardrobe change can be achieved in just 2 hours.
We can style a detailed look for a special occasion from head to toe including hairstyles and make-up preferences. A capsule wardrobe can also be achieved in two hours.
And most importantly we can revive a wardrobe in 2 hours. You don’t have to buy a whole new wardrobe if you have lots of items that you like but not utilised, so we simply put looks together.
Do you think only people that struggle with style need a stylist or could everyone do with a little help?
I style people from all walks of life from teenagers, to CEO’s, to celebrities but there’s one thing that everyone wants however stylish (or unstylish) they are to begin with. That’s to look and feel like the best version of themselves.
That’s when a stylist like me can help them unearth their personal style by giving them new ideas and outlooks when it comes to their personal style.
How do you decide which shops are best for someone?
I decide according to their style questionnaire. That helps me figure out the customer’s taste and why it’s very important to study each customer’s preferences.
It’s calculated according to the age, the budget, the background of the customer and how open the person is to fashion and trends.
How quickly after seeing someone can you tell exactly what you think they should have in their wardrobe?
I can tell from the first moment I enter a store with my client and start showing them the items I prepared or had in mind for them.
Most people tend to buy statement pieces to look chic and forget to buy the basics that actually elevates their look.
This is an assumption I like to work with to make sure every customer I style has a full capsule wardrobe!
Do you think Dubai is a difficult place to shop alone in?
Dubai is a huge fashion market and there are plenty of great brands from all over the world here. It would in fact take a few months to make sure you cover all the brands and trends.
If you’re not always shopping in the malls, it can be a confusing market as there are endless choices.
