The whole retail landscape has changed dramatically over the last few months and we’ve seen so many high street brands close their doors for the last time. With bricks and mortar shops closed for months, people weren’t able to shop in person which meant online sales increased but so did the level of returns.

With more people working from home and less people going into the office, the WFHW (work from home wardrobe) has now become the norm for most of us.

Accompanied by every change in our lives, should come a change in terms of our wardrobes. If you change career, you get a promotion, you are put in charge of a new team, all of these things would have (in the past) been a catalyst for people wanting to change and upgrade their wardrobes.

With so many people now looking for work or having to change careers, there’s never been a more important time to make sure that you are the best representation of yourself.

Self Care and Your Style

You may have been following how Style Doctors has been helping companies transform from the old ‘business’ style of dressing to a more smart/casual style of dressing but time will tell if we see an even more casual style of dressing emerge in the future.

If you subscribe to any brand emails, you’ll notice that many have adopted a more casual approach to their offering with ‘comfort’ coming up high on the list. But what does this mean for the future of fashion and our personal style?

At the moment, we’re seeing a huge increase in people not feeling good about themselves. Levels of anxiety and depression has according to some reports, doubled during the last few months which means that self care is incredibly important.

 

As our tagline goes – If you look good, you feel good.

Now, in no way are we saying that everyone’s problems will magically disappear with a new wardrobe BUT, self care through style is something we believe to be an incredible tonic

Wearing sloppy clothes makes us feel sloppy, simple as that. Think about that time you got dressed up, went out and felt really (and we mean really) good about yourself. Remember that fuzzy feeling? Perhaps you felt sexy, confident, playful or that you simply loved that feeling of holding your head up high.

You can’t put a price on how you feel about yourself and in difficult times, we need to work even harder at all aspects of our lives from our work, to relationships, to style.

Our Tips

Out with the old // Look through your wardrobe and if there’s anything in there that doesn’t fit, has tags on it, you haven’t worn in years, pull it out. You only want things in your everyday wardrobe that you can and are happy to wear.

Your life // Whether you’re on video calls all day or that you barely see anyone any more, write down how much time you spend working, socialising and exercising. These percentages should match up with what’s in your wardrobe. For example, if you exercise once a week, 80% of your wardrobe shouldn’t consist of workout clothes.

Elevate // Try to elevate your everyday looks by adding something that makes you feel good. Wearing a simple white t shirt today? Add a necklace to transform it. Living in lounge clothes? Invest in some nice sets that you would wear outside the house too.

Mix it up // Just like a diet, too much of one thing is never good. Try getting ‘dressed up’ every other day or even twice a week. Trust us, it will make you feel good plus when things return back to a new normal, the concept of dressing up won’t feel totally alien.
